A Place of Action

Thrive Virginia is a 501c3 non-profit founded in 1970 as part of the Economic Opportunity Act to fight poverty. For the past fifty-plus years, Thrive Virginia has supported the well-being of families to ensure that all area residents can reach their full potential and contribute to their communities. By maximizing the well-being of all, Thrive Virginia helps our communities thrive. Thrive Virginia employs a whole-family approach that identifies the risk factors that undermine a family's overall well-being; Family Coaches then work with families to solve problems, access resources, and sharpen existing skills. Thrive Virginia focuses on early childhood development, access to post-secondary education opportunities, economic asset growth, optimal health and well-being, and social capital.

  • The Early Childhood Education Program provides home visits to promote positive parenting, improve childhood outcomes, and increase family self-sufficiency through education and community support.
  • The Economic Empowerment programs partner with individuals and families in our service area to increase their financial capability and their community's economic mobility opportunities. This includes financial and housing education and counseling, coaching with health resources and basic needs, and connections to employment training and opportunities. In addition, the team also operates the K&Q Family C.A.R.E. Center, a place for families to find support, connections and resources in the King and Queen County community.
  • The Health and Well-being Program provides domestic violence and sexual assault intervention services, including court advocacy, supportive counseling, safety planning, children's counseling, and a summer day camp.
  • The Education and Social Capital Program provides a feeding program to children who live or attend school in King William County or King and Queen County. It also offers domestic violence and sexual assault prevention education in schools and the community. The program provides resources to help students transition to post-secondary education through the Project Discovery curriculum.
  • Family Coaching through a Whole Family Approach helps families pursue their goals, optimizing each family member's potential.

Our service area includes: the counties of Caroline, Charles City, Hanover, New Kent, King & Queen, King George, King William, Spotsylvania and Stafford; the City of Fredericksburg; and the Town of West Point.
